Balloon Dog

This week we will be looking at the fantastic Jeff Koons Balloon Dog art lesson by Patty Palmer of Deep Space Sparkle. Before we get into the lesson, let’s look at a little video about Jeff Koons.

Here is the video Patty made showing her process. I love the layers of this project. She uses some very specific art materials in her video, below I will be showing you some alternative ideas. Once you finish your art, turn it in by taking a picture.

If you do not have a bingo dauber or colored paper or even paints, let me show you how I did this project using recycled food boxes, magazines, and a few drawing tools.

  • 1. Collect any kind of paper (recycled food boxes, magazines, junk mail), scissors, marker, and white crayon.
  • 2. Pick out three pieces of paper, one for background or sky, one for buildings, last for ground or grass.
  • 3. Cut a skyline out of the buildings paper. Think about geometric shapes and rectangles. I also used a black marker to add details.
  • 4. Tear strips from the ground paper to put at bottom.
  • 5. Cut out one oval as a template.
  • 6. Trace the oval 6 more times. Draw a small oval and small triangle.
  • 7. Cut out shapes. You should have 7 ovals, 1 small oval, 1 small triangle.
  • 8. Draw a black or dark curve on one side of each shape and a white curve on the other side of the shape. Place ovals and shapes to arrange the balloon dog!
